THERMAL COAL
As a major mining operation, we provide a substantial amount of thermal coal to power stations. This energy allows us to supply power to much of South Africa. We care for the world around us. We prioritize our community.
OPERATIONS
We have six large scale mines for the open cast and underground operations of the thermal coal. We send that thermal coal to power Eskom's Kriel, Tutuka, Lethabo, Kendal, and Duvha power stations. We send some for exports.
SA ENERGY COAL HOLDINGS PROPRIETARY LIMITED
The company bought the operations of SA Energy Coal Holdings Proprietary Limited in June of 2021. This brought on four additional mines. These mines are the Khutala, Klipspruit, and Middelburg Mines Services North and South mines. Coal goes to the Kendal and Duvha power stations. The Pegasus project was part of the acquisition.
PRODUCTION
We supplied around 24 million tonnes of thermal coal to Eskom in 2020. The goal is around 32% of electricity output. Production is expected to rise from 2022. It should be about 34.3 million tonnes of thermal coal supply to Eskom on an annualized basis. Also about 6.7 million tonnes goes for the export market. We supply in bulk for wholesale distribution.
NEW LARGO
We are developing New Largo in phases as multiproduct Mini Pits. It can provide additional coal supplies.
