PRODUCTION PROCESS
Charge chrome production is a carbothermic reduction operation that occurs at high temperatures. Chrome ore, consisting of chromium and iron oxide, reduces with coal and coke. This creates the ferrochrome alloy. The smelting consumes over 3,500 kilowatt-hours of electricity per ton.
QUALITY AND RECOVERY
To improve recovery, we utilize alloy recovery plants. They recover the ferrochrome from the slag. We process it through a series of crushers. Then, the chrome and slag separate by gravity. Slag chips are sold for construction.
APPLICATIONS IN STEEL INDUSTRY
We sell this charge chrome to clients in the stainless steel industry. These clients make more than 170 different types of stainless steels. Those products require wet and dry corrosion resistance. Chromium also improves steel's wear and heat resistance.
